I took some time this break to go back to my info-graphic. I feel I had a much clearer idea of what I wanted it to look like this time. I think that the last version I just got caught up in adobe effects and I felt pretty detached from it—like anyone could recreate it without even meaning to. This version I feel reads more like an infographic should and makes more sense to me and to others I have shown.

I am making a major change with my type specimen project. After working with the laser cutter all this week, I started to notice that I was wayyyy more intrigued by the pieces that were cut out of the plexiglass rather than the negative “knockout” they left. After dwelling on this for a little while, I’ve decided that I would like to make a set of five specimens that you can hang on a wall as an ornament. The ornament would consist of lots of letters put together as one unit. Each ornament will have it’s own qualities given the natural design of the typeface. Here is an example I made of how I would like to execute this design. The laser cuts along the stroke. I know it’s hard to imagine it cut out.

On a side note, I have started designing my process book. I am going to have this design etched out of a plexi-glass cover so the color of this design is just for viewing purposes. Try to imagine the text knocked out. The title of this process book I chose because of a letter I received that has really pushed me to reiterate all of my previous work in this class as much as I can before I put it all together in this book. The font I’m working with is FranKleinBold. I really think the san-serif works well with the colors I chose and the soft fun feel of the imagery. I especially like the slighlty rounded edges which give it a playful look. The white circles are for the small illustrations I am making of each step. Right now I am working out the materials list.

I think that rather than brand this concept with a package, I would like to make an instructional spread on how to make the tool.
